Bangalore, India - Y. R. Gaitonde Medical, Educational and Research Foundation (YRG MERF), in partnership with Theobroma, implemented a community-focused CSR initiative under its NIMIR skilling programme, reaching 295 women and children from underserved communities in Bangalore.
Held at Romero Hall, Indian Social Institute, the initiative combined infrastructure support, skill exposure, and direct community engagement, reflecting YRG’s ongoing work to strengthen access to opportunities at the grassroots level.
Enabling Digital Access at the Community Level
The initiative marked the inauguration of a Digital Lab in Benson Town, supported by Theobroma and facilitated by YRG. Equipped with laptops and essential infrastructure, the lab is intended to function as a shared learning space for community members with limited access to digital resources.
The facility establishes a sustained point of access for digital literacy, learning, and skill-building.
Introducing Skills with Livelihood Potential
As part of the programme, a live baking and cake decoration session, Bake to Empower, was conducted by Theobroma’s team. The session introduced participants, particularly women, to a practical skill with potential for income generation.
Beyond the activity itself, the session opened up discussions around self-employment and small-scale entrepreneurship.
High Community Participation and Engagement
The event saw full participation from the community, with 295 women and children in attendance. The programme included the inauguration ceremony, workshop session, and a community lunch, ensuring both engagement and inclusivity.
YRG’s continued presence and on-ground engagement played a key role in mobilising participation and ensuring smooth execution.
Immediate Support Through Targeted Distribution
Children received school bags, steel tiffin boxes, and stationery kits, while community representatives were provided with essential household items. These distributions addressed immediate needs while complementing the broader focus on long-term empowerment.
Sustained Impact Through Partnership
The initiative reflects a dual approach, addressing immediate gaps while building longer-term access to skills and resources. The Digital Lab creates ongoing value for the community, while skill-based exposure introduces pathways for economic participation.
Through partnerships such as this, YRG continues to expand its community-based interventions, aligning corporate support with grounded, locally relevant impact.
