YRG and ZoomInfo Launch Denim Repurposing Project to Empower 60 Women Through Sustainable Skills Training

Initiative combines women's economic empowerment with circular fashion principles; formally inaugurated at NIMIR Centre with active employee participation

Chennai, 5 February 2025 = YRG, in collaboration with ZoomInfo, has officially launched the Denim Repurposing Project, a pioneering initiative aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods for women while promoting circular fashion practices. The project was formally inaugurated on 4 February 2025 at the NIMIR Centre with the participation of 12 ZoomInfo employees and 60 women beneficiaries.

Empowering Women Through Sustainable Fashion

The Denim Repurposing Project will train 60 women in tailoring and garment construction, equipping them with practical skills to transform discarded denim into high-quality, market-ready products. Participants will receive comprehensive training in denim alteration, repurposing techniques, and basic garment construction, with sustainability and waste reduction as core themes throughout the curriculum.

Upon successful completion, all participants will receive a recognized tailoring certificate, enhancing their employability and opening pathways to self-employment and entrepreneurship.

A Collaborative Launch

The inauguration ceremony at the NIMIR Centre brought together corporate partners, community members, and project stakeholders in a spirit of shared commitment. The event commenced with a guided tour of the NIMIR facility, showcasing the programme infrastructure and ongoing community initiatives.

The formal launch included a ceremonial ribbon cutting and traditional lamp lighting, jointly performed by community women alongside representatives from ZoomInfo and YRG, symbolizing the collaborative nature of this partnership.

Mr. Thamburaj delivered the welcome address, establishing the context for the initiative, followed by Ms. Sindhu's comprehensive presentation on the project's purpose and objectives. Ms. Usha further highlighted the anticipated economic, social, and environmental impact of the programme.

ZoomInfo employees Ms. Suchitra and Ms. Grace addressed the gathering with motivational messages, encouraging the women participants to approach the training with commitment, confidence, and a pursuit of excellence. The session concluded with a vote of thanks, after which refreshments prepared by the Eco Kitchen were served to all attendees.

Impact and Vision

"This project reflects our commitment to empowering communities while championing sustainable practices in the fashion industry."

"By combining vocational training with circular economy principles, we're not just teaching skills—we're fostering economic independence and environmental stewardship."

The Denim Repurposing Project addresses multiple sustainable development goals, including women's economic empowerment, sustainable consumption and production, and climate action through waste reduction. The initiative demonstrates how corporate-community partnerships can create meaningful social and environmental impact.
